 Worried about Suunto moving production of some models to China August 11, 2010

I owned a Sunnto altimeter and it worked well until it died after 4 years - as it had had lots of abuse I didn't mind buying another. The Lumi looked the best choice but after 3 months it has already gone wrong - the log function isn't working. I have sent it back for repair under warranty...but having read lots of reviews on the web I'm now starting to worry...the Lumi (made in China) doesn't seem to share the bombproof reliability of Suunto's other Finnish made products.

I have had my watch for about a month and have not had any issues with the band or watch. It did take me a little while to get the band cut down to fit my wrist. Did not want to cut too small and have to buy another band. No issues with the band separating or anything. The only thing that is a little annoying you need to recalibrate the compass before use (each time). Mine does not keep correct direction unless I recalibrate. Great watch. I have a small wrist and it does not overpower nor is it too heavy. Love it.

Bought specifically for a 3 day backpacking trip in Colorado. I had never owned a wrist-top computer that included all these cool features (like the altimeter, barometer, and digital compass to mention the main ones). Love the design...very simple and well detailed. The wrist bands are very easy to remove. And the carabiner case that is included works well clipped to the pack shoulder straps. The carabiner case could be better though - it's just plastic.
The altimeter worked great! entered a reference altitude at the trail head and it was great from then on.......referenced it several times along the trail to monitor our progress. And the altimeter matched our end destination altitude that day.
Love the sunset/sunrise setting.
No complaints here. I was actually surprised at the size of it.....I had read how large it was (even for a female design)....but I guess I was thinking way large because it was smaller than I thought it would be.
Researched a bunch of prices and this one was the cheapest. For some reason the same watch with a black strap (instead of olive like this one) was $50 more. I can live with the green.
I would defiantly recommend to a friend.

I am about to return my second Lumi and order a third. The first one had what was, in retrospect, some minor problems. For instance, the Mode button wouldn't always work--had to press it several times, shake it, or wait a couple minutes for it to finally work. After receiving the second one, I wish I could have the first one back. When navigating a menu, the up and down buttons would just bring me right back to the main screen. And, after a month or so, it completely died.
HOWEVER, I am ordering #3 because this is a BEAUTIFUL watch. It is chunky but elegant. I get tons of comments about it. I absolutely love the looks of it. I just wish its mechanics were as good as its looks.
P.S. As far as the band, I love that you can cut it to length (easy to do) and not have any bulky end hanging off of it.

I was so excited to receive my Suunto Lumi watch! So far so good... Everything has been fairly accurate, including the storm alarm and compass. My small complaint is that even though I followed the directions carefully regarding how to adjust the watchband, it still resulted in a tight fit. I wish they had created a regular watchband that doesn't require snipping the plastic (just a regular adjustable would have been great). The band is pretty and seems durable. Maybe it's too much to ask but I wish they had included a heart monitor too. Another cool feature is the sunrise-sunset time. I don't have much trouble switching to the feature I'm looking for e.g. stop-watch. Doesn't feel overly heavy even with its big watchface. I like that it is a mirrored face- my husband was teasing me that I could look into it to put on lipstick- ladies, you actually can =). Anyway, I'm psyched to take it on a hike or trail.
