Product Description The weather was clear for days as your expedition ascended 10,000 feet, but then the barometric pressure started to change and your Storm Alarm went off. Thanks to the Suunto Core Altimeter Watch, you set up your high-altitude camp ahead of the big storm and are in your sleeping bag sipping hot cocoa before it hits. Bravo.

Stylish update to a proven design June 6, 2010 the_royal_we (Washington DC) This watch does not provide new innovations from the current CORE line.. but it delivers what previous models have done so well with an updated exterior. The band is extremely comfortable and the silver face with blackout screws is very attractive. The positive display is much easier to read in the daylight as compared to models with the negative/military display (acknowledging these version to look very nice but only under the right light conditions) Make no mistake, this watch will cover up most of your wrist, but its not over-the-top big. This is the first CORE watch that I have owned, but am impressed with following:
1. Digital display of the 'second hand" through perimeter hash marks
2. Sunrise/Sunset calculations available at bottom of watch by inputing the city you live in
3. Approaching storm alarm through monitoring of falling barometric pressure
4. Stopwatch/Countdown timer easy to get to through main screen
5. Accurate compass once you correctly calibrate and enter magnetic deviation for your location
This watch won't record workout/trecking data like the X and T series, so if you are looking for that you should not consider this watch. However, if you are looking for an attractive version of the CORE with no frills A, B, C, D functionality, you should consider this watch.
Don't buy if you actually need this watch to be accurate April 18, 2010 Tereco 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Positives:
Look Cool Scale: 10- Definately the coolest looking watch I have ever owned
Backlight: 8- light could be brighter if they just made it red but since it's a turquoise, the brightness is just right so the whole world doesn't know you're checking on your bearing.
Compass: 10- Accurate
Negatives:
Altimeter: 0- NOT ACCURATE/All over the place
Temperature: 0- NOT ACCURATE/consistently 10+ degrees high after taking it off my wrist for it to assess the air temp as opposed to my skin temp
Depth Gage: 0- NOT ACCURATE. Actually hardly ever registered at all but at times it said that I was as 70+ feet when I only went down to 60 feet. Oddly enough the watch only advertises being capable of registering down to 32 feet.
Durability: 4- Just two days after purchasing the watch, the black and red paint started to flake off with only gentle use. I would estimate that just 4 months into owning this watch, it will be completely silver and since the coolest part about this watch is how it looks, that pretty much makes it useless when you consider the accuracy of the capabilities it advertises. One good thing to note is that the watch maintained it's water tight integrity when I pushed the buttons to swich modes while I was at depth. Some "water resistant" watches can't do that.
I am returning the watch because it was WAAAAY too expensive for what you get. I might have even considered keeping it for it's asthetics if it didn't cost $300.00. But unfortunately I'm not very rich so I have to spend my money on equipment that actually works.
Great, cool watch February 19, 2010 Fernando Magalhaes Gomes Great watch, beautiful design and very well finish.
Still have something to read to understand better all the possibility.
Falls a bit short - poor display and flimsy February 10, 2010 Bryan L. Singer (Deep South, United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had a Suunto X-lander before this watch. I remember it being flawless, easy to read, and solid construction. This watch looked to be a good replacement, but I was immediately disappointed. The display is very difficult to read, I have to stare intently to see the North indicator on the compass and read the display in general. The backlight doesn't help as it is also very weak.
Then, there's the construction. It has a polished case and all I can think is SCRATCH! The watchband felt like it would rip.
As far as functions go, seems well featured, but the display really makes this watch unappealing to me.
Do not buy this watch February 2, 2010 A. Graham (Washington, DC United States) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I read all the reviews before buying this watch and I should have listened. This watch is not worth the $300 you will pay for it. Suunto wil not honor your warranty if you buy this watch on Amazon.
The black background with numbers does not work. It looks neat, sounds stylish, but is not functional.
The compass is off by 20 degrees. This is the main reason I bought the watch. Don't waste your money.
If you intend to use the stopwatch while you exercise, the stopwatch is too small to read while you are running.
The Alarm works great. The watch is large, but very comfortable. The altimeter is neat, but not terribly useful. The thermometer obviously won't work becuase its pressed against your skin. The clock works great, but on the $60 watch I should have bought, you can see the numbers on the stopwatch.
Save your money, do not buy this watch.
